Help make sure our social media actually feels social.
Social media is one of the biggest ways people discover Trans Empowerment Project, learn about our programs, join our campaigns, donate, volunteer, and stay connected to our work, but we're not interested in posting just to keep the algorithm gods appeased.
We're looking for volunteer Social Media Coordinators who can help us create thoughtful, engaging content that gives people a reason to stop scrolling, pay attention, participate, and come back.
You'll work closely with TEP's communications team, program leads, and creative volunteers to help plan and manage our day-to-day social media presence — from figuring out what we're posting next week to celebrating a great comment section to looking back at the numbers and asking, Okay, why did THAT post absolutely take off?
What You'll Do
Help Build Our Content Calendar
There's always something happening at TEP. Your job will help us turn all of that activity into a communications plan that makes sense. You'll:
Create & Schedule Content
You'll help take ideas from "we should post about this" to an actual finished post. Depending on the project, that might mean:
Engage With Our Community
Posting is only half the job. We want our social media accounts to feel like there's an actual organization — and actual humans — on the other side of the screen.
You'll help:
You won't be expected to argue endlessly with trolls or personally handle sensitive situations. We'll provide guidance about what you can answer, what should be escalated, and when the correct communications strategy is simply walking away.
Help Us Learn What's Working
We don't want to measure success by vibes alone. You'll help us regularly look at social media performance and answer questions like:
You'll help track key metrics, identify standout content, and share useful insights with the communications team so we're continuously improving instead of repeating the same strategy forever because "that's how we've always done it."
You Might Be a Great Fit If You...
Experience with social media management platforms such as Metricool, Hootsuite, Buffer, Sprout Social, Later, or similar tools is helpful, but not required. We'll teach you the platforms and workflows TEP uses.
About the Experience We're Looking For
You don't need to be a professional social media manager with years of agency experience to be successful here.
Maybe you've managed social media for a student organization, nonprofit, political campaign, small business, mutual aid project, Twitch community, community organization, or your own successful project. Maybe communications was only one part of another role.
We're primarily looking for people who can show us that they understand social media as a communications tool , can write effectively for digital audiences, have good judgment, and are excited to learn.
We can teach you our scheduling tools, internal processes, brand guidelines, and analytics systems.
What we can't teach quite as easily is curiosity, creativity, passion, and good instincts.
Time Commitment
Approximately 3–5 hours per week , with flexible scheduling.
Because social media doesn't operate exclusively between 9 and 5, there may occasionally be opportunities to help with timely posts or engagement outside your usual schedule. We don't expect volunteers to be permanently online or constantly available.
During major TEP campaigns and events, volunteers who want to take on additional hours or responsibilities are welcome to do so.
What Success Looks Like
A successful Social Media Coordinator helps us build a presence where:
Ultimately, we're not chasing followers for the sake of having a bigger number on a screen. We want social media to help people find TEP, understand TEP, trust TEP, and become part of the community we're building.
